A life changing update

Jeremy Spira

On November, 18 2021, my wife Bianca and I became parents! Our son, Milo Jack Spira was born in the middle of the night at 3:32 a.m. weighing 6lbs 1 oz. In the month-long saga thus far of being a dad, I’ve learnt that babies grow quickly, and you don’t know what love is until they poop in your lap.

Unsurprisingly, dad-jokes take on an entire new meaning when you’ve got experience under your belt. Since becoming a father, it's become abundantly clear that the previous dad-jokes I’d throw out weren’t all that up to par. I tried to keep my wife happy through labor by telling jokes, but she didn’t laugh once. Know why? It was the delivery…

Being a first-time father has so far taught me many life lessons I will carry with me through both my personal life and professional career. Baby Milo has taught me how to anticipate his needs similar to how good client service is reliant on knowing and anticipating the need before it presents itself. You’ve got to learn baby communication skills and apply them for both your sanity and the wellbeing of your little ones.

What’s been really surprising is how easy going the nature of early parenthood can be. When he sleeps, we sleep. When he’s hungry, you feed him. Your entire world revolves around this tiny human being. Life becomes extremely simple and your perspective of it forever changes. It’s given me a great deal of appreciation for unpredictability in life.

Over the course of my new found fatherhood, I’ve enjoyed discovering new aspects of our daily life and creating new habits. Slowing down, focusing on all the small moments like bathing our son, going for a walk outside, taking a moment to spend time with the people you love and the friends and family members who have given their time to help. But in the end it all comes down to poop. There is always poop to change in the diaper.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to express congratulations, provide advice and well wishes to my new family. As I settle into my new role, my email response may be slower - I am after all training a new assistant.
