Electronic signatures are acceptable on documents requiring signature and are deemed to have the same effect as a physical signature. Acceptable forms of electronic signatures include:
(i) a scanned copy of a physically-signed document;
(ii) a scanned signature pasted in the signature block of an electronic document; or
(iii) a signature created using a touchscreen and pasted in the signature block of an electronic document.

Electronic factums and transcripts that are 35 MBs or greater must be submitted by way of CD/DVD-ROM or USB key.
Other documents larger than 35MB should be divided into smaller parts and labelled accordingly or should be sent using a file-sharing service that provides shared links online or in the cloud.
The sender must include in the subject line of the email the nature of the attachment and the court file number.
The file names for all electronic versions of factums, transcripts and other material must start with the Court of Appeal appeal or motion number followed by one of the character codes set out in Part V of the electronic filing guidelines on the ONCA website.

The requirements of the Rules of Civil Procedure, the Criminal Appeal Rules, the Family Law Rules, and all existing practice directions and guidelines requiring the filing of paper copies of documents in the Court of Appeal are dispensed with unless otherwise ordered by the court.

The Court of Appeal will reject any electronic version of a factum, transcript or other document that does not conform to the procedures set out in these Guidelines.
