CiteRight is all about making things easier for lawyers, which is why we decided to develop our E-Filing Toolkit, Canada’s first practice resource dedicated exclusively to electronic filing in Canadian courts. We’ve consolidated the guidelines and requirements for all courts across Canada so that you can easily find what you need and get back to focusing on your clients.
Electronic filing is supposed to be a quick and efficient alternative to filing documents in-person at courthouses. In reality? Not so much. There’s nothing worse than when you’re trying to submit something under the wire only to realize that you don’t remember how your document is supposed to be labeled, where to send it, or whether your file is too large to be accepted. Get any of the details wrong, and you risk having the court reject your submission.
Well, our E-Filing Toolkit has you covered. It’s a comprehensive collection of e-filing requirements from all courts across Canada, designed from the ground up to make your job easier, and it’s the first and only information resource of its kind.
Sure, courts post their e-filing requirements online, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy to find...
At CiteRight, our mission is to take the friction out of litigation work so that lawyers can spend more time on high-quality, meaningful work for their clients.
We took on this project because we’ve heard from practitioners (and seen for ourselves) that e-filing can be a pretty complicated process. The requirements aren’t always clearly outlined, and they can vary significantly between courts and across jurisdictions. Just locating the necessary information is a challenge in its own right; sometimes it’s buried several pages deep in an obscure practice direction, while other times it doesn’t seem to exist anywhere.
Courts are responsible for making the rules, but they don’t necessarily have the time or resources to make sure things are presented in a uniform and accessible way. That means every time you visit a court website, you’ll likely have to do some digging to find the information you need.
Streamlining that kind of process is what we do best. We know that lawyers have more important things to do than go spelunking on court websites, so we decided to make it our job to compile all the information out there into something that’s convenient and easy to use. With the release of our E-Filing Toolkit, we’ve given practitioners a simple, trustworthy, and up-to-date resource that will make their jobs easier, available any time they need it.
You can focus on the information that's relevant to you
We’ve broken the requirements down by jurisdiction and practice area so you can quickly access the information you need without having to sift through a bunch of irrelevant materials.
You’ll also find links to all the applicable practice directions and online filing platforms. We monitor the court websites for changes and update our pages constantly, so you know that you’re always getting the most current information available.
Whether you’re from a large firm or a solo practitioner, this is an excellent time-saving resource for anyone. You’ll know exactly where to look to find what you need— no more last-minute scrambling to make sure your documents are suitable for filing. Our design also makes it easy to compare and contrast the requirements across different courts, which is great for firms practicing in multiple jurisdictions.
